Teaching Week 9: Writing Christmas Letters

So, this week I mostly reviewed Christmas vocabulary with all of my classes. I even got to see my Skype classes in person this week which was nice. The kids were all really surprised to see me in person! Also, during all of my lessons we sang some Christmas classics, like, “We Wish You a Merry Christmas”, “Jingle Bells”, and I even taught one class “Twelve Days of Christmas”. Another activity that the kids really enjoyed was writing a letter to Santa Claus. These French kids had some interesting gift requests, lol. Here is a list of some things that the kids asked for:

Most common gifts:
-tablet
-FIFA 14
-Hair styling head
-Stuffed animals

-board games
-remote-controlled helicopter
-Playstation
-3DS

Animals some kids wanted:

-headphones

One little girl wrote a touching letter. She asked santa for her mom to come back because she said that she would do anything for her. It was a little sad though, because I am not sure if her mom left her or if she died or something... :(.

A few of my kids gave me some christmas gifts. One girl, from my Wednesday class, made me a pretty creative Christmas card! It was pretty creative, and she even made his beard and hat using cotton balls.
She even wrote Happy Holidays above Santa!
Other kids gave me little chocolates, but on Thursday, I got a couple gifts from students right at the end of my last class. One girl gave me another poster of Taylor Swift (I swear I am going to have so many by the end of the year, lol) and a little christmas card. Then, there was a super cute, shy boy who presented me with a gift. As I was about to leave, the teacher brought him over and said that he had something for me. He quickly handed me a bag with a box of chocolates inside. It was so sweet! He was already heading back to his seat before I even got to say thank you. He was so shy, but this little gift really made my day :). Hopefully, this little boy will become less shy as I continue to work in this classroom.

So, all of my classes went pretty well this week. On Wednesday morning at school, one teacher brought little desserts and cider for us all because she passed some sort of exam. We were all happy for her, and I enjoyed the macarons and eclairs she brought!  Thursday morning was a bit stressful. Usually a teacher comes to pick me up right by my apartment, but today she overslept. Luckily, I called her in the morning and woke her up. I ended up walking to her house (and getting a little lost) so that we could get to the school faster. We ended up running a bit late, but at least we made it! I just had to shorten my two first classes of the day.

Tuesday afternoon, we had a pretty satisfying lunch at the high school. I had turkey, salad, mushrooms, potatoes, cheese, raspberry mousse, tangerines, chocolate, and bread!

Thursday night, I went out for dinner with the other assistants in and near Roanne! It was really nice to meet up and I had a delicious burger and fries.

So now I am officially on Christmas Break for the next 2 weeks, and I am coming back home for the holidays! I am coming back tomorrow, and I am excited to be reunited with my family and friends!

Can’t wait to be home,

Magdalena
